MP's Takes Actions to Eliminate Contentious Taxes From the Finance Bill 2024

In response to the public's outcry and feedback, legislators are taking action to eliminate contentious taxes from the Finance Bill 2024. This decision comes after an extensive two-week public participation exercise conducted by the National Assembly Committee on Finance. The primary objective is to address the concerns raised by Kenyans and ensure a more transparent and accountable budget approval process. By removing these controversial taxes, the government aims to foster a stronger connection between the budget and the needs of the people.

Demonstrating their commitment to implementing key programs, the National Treasury has revealed a KSh 4 trillion budget for the upcoming 2024/25 fiscal year. This budget approval holds immense significance as it paves the way for the successful execution of various government initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of citizens. The decision to remove controversial taxes from the bill is a significant step towards addressing public concerns and ensuring that the budget accurately reflects the needs and aspirations of the people.

Spearheading the public consultation process, the National Assembly Committee on Finance is diligently working towards presenting their report on Tuesday, June 18. Based on the feedback received during the public participation exercise, amendments are expected to be made to the contentious tax clauses. Ultimately, the budget's approval will be put to a vote in Parliament, underscoring the paramount importance of transparency and accountability in the budget approval process. This comprehensive approach ensures that the concerns and opinions of the public are taken into account, resulting in a more inclusive and representative budget.
