Victoria Wangui Maina thought it was a normal night out with friends at a Kasarani club. It ended in what she describes as a 3-day nightmare.
The TVET student says she was abandoned by her friends who left without clearing a KSh 15,000 bill, and club staff turned on her.
Victoria alleges she was locked inside the VIP section, denied food, denied a bath, and beaten with a pipe on her legs, back, stomach and hands as management watched.
"They beat me with a pipe, tore the clothes I was wearing. They said we had not paid the bill and that's why they had me in custody," she said.
Her parents say the ordeal was even more complicated. Her father suspects she was drugged by a Nigerian man in their group who then vanished, leaving her to carry the bill alone.
Her mother, Linda Peter, rushed to the club to plead for her release the next day, but the owner allegedly insisted the bill must be paid first. On returning, the family found the club's gate locked.
The family's attempt to get help from Kasarani Police Station hit a wall. Linda claims officers declined to book the incident and told them to go and settle it with the club.
The family is now calling for justice, accusing the club of unlawful detention and assault, and accusing police of ignoring their complaint.
