Kakamega OCS Arrested Over Alleged Defilement of 16-Year-Old Girl

A senior police officer in Kakamega County has been arrested and is under investigation over allegations involving the defilement of a 16-year-old girl.

The Officer Commanding Station at Lumakanda Police Station, Wycliff Kwendo, was arrested after a report was filed at the station on September 27, 2026, under OB number 14/27/09/2026.

According to police records, the case began when the officer allegedly contacted a family in the Kipkaren River area, claiming that a multi-agency security operation was about to take place nearby. He reportedly advised the family to leave their home temporarily.

The parents allegedly met him along the highway, and he then drove them to a local bar, saying it would be safer for them to stay there until morning. The mother became suspicious and persuaded her husband to return home.

When the couple reached their house, they allegedly found the door locked from inside. Their teenage daughter eventually opened it, and the parents reportedly found the police commander inside. A confrontation followed, during which the officer allegedly asked them not to escalate the matter.

According to the police report, the officer allegedly drew his firearm and threatened the mother when she refused to hand over items she had taken as potential evidence. He is also accused of taking the couple's mobile phones and leaving KSh 20,000 before fleeing the scene. The girl was reportedly found behind the house afterward.

The matter was reported to authorities immediately, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers visited the scene to preserve evidence. The minor was taken to Lumakanda Sub-County Hospital, where she is receiving medical care and undergoing a forensic examination.

Western Region DCI boss Douglas Chikanda confirmed that the OCS has been arrested and is being held at Kakamega Police Station as investigations continue.

The allegations have not been determined in court. Investigators are expected to establish what happened and whether criminal charges will follow.
