ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has reportedly been advised by his doctors in the United Kingdom to step back from active politics and limit intensive engagements while he continues receiving medical care.
Oburu travelled to the UK for a comprehensive medical check-up on the advice of his doctors and ODM leadership. He said the trip would also give him time to rest and recover.
The development has renewed attention on the veteran politician's health, after weeks of reduced visibility in political activities. His family has said he has improved but remains in the UK while doctors complete their assessment before he returns to Kenya.
Oburu has previously moved to reassure Kenyans about his health, dismissing earlier reports that he was seriously ill following a hospital visit in Nairobi. He described that visit as a routine check-up and said he would inform the public if his condition became serious.
His latest medical trip has continued to draw interest from ODM supporters and political observers, given his role as party leader at a critical moment ahead of the 2027 General Election. He has maintained that his temporary absence shouldn't affect ODM's operations, pointing to the party's deputy leaders, national organs, and secretariat as capable of managing its affairs while he focuses on recovery.
