A 9-year-old girl from Kibra, Nairobi, has died after allegedly being brutally assaulted by her own father, leaving the community in shock.
The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Norman Swahili, is currently in police custody following the incident that occurred on Saturday, September 6, 2026.
Police officers at Kibra Police Station say they received a distress call from residents reporting that a man had seriously assaulted his daughter. Officers together with the community policing team rushed to the home, but the father had already taken the injured child to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment.
On arrival at the hospital, officers were informed that the child had been pronounced dead on arrival.
A preliminary examination of the body revealed disturbing details. The minor had multiple bruises and swellings all over her body and had lost one of her upper incisor teeth. Doctors also noted signs of further abuse.
The body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home where it is preserved awaiting a full postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment in court.
