Police Officer Injured as Suspected Looters Attack Officers at Kipkelion Accident Scene

A police officer is nursing injuries after suspected looters attacked officers responding to a road accident at Tunnel area in Kipkelion, Kericho County.

The incident happened on Sunday evening after a HOWO trailer was involved in a crash. According to police, locals allegedly began looting iron sheets from the wreckage. When officers arrived, the group reportedly turned hostile and started throwing stones at them.

One constable was hit on the forehead and suffered a deep cut and head injuries. Fellow officers rushed him to Fort Ternan Sub-County Hospital, where he received first aid before being referred to Siloam Hospital in Kericho for specialised treatment.

Witnesses said the attackers appeared organised and targeted the officers as they tried to disperse the crowd. The confrontation disrupted rescue efforts at the scene and forced police to call for reinforcement.

Police have launched investigations into both the attack and the looting, and are working to trace the suspects involved. Authorities condemned the incident, saying such acts endanger officers and compromise public safety.

Security experts warn that mob attacks at accident and crime scenes put both officers and civilians at greater risk. Residents have been urged to cooperate with police during emergencies and to avoid interfering with rescue operations.
