Woman Hacked to Death by Brother-in-Law While Husband Works in Qatar

A sombre mood has settled over Ilesi village in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, after a 25-year-old woman was killed, allegedly by her brother-in-law, on Thursday, September 24.

The deceased, Patience Penenzi, was attacked while walking her four-year-old child to school. She was reportedly cut several times with a panga by Desmond Kirishi, her husband's brother. Her child was also injured in the attack and remains admitted at Mukumu Hospital in critical condition.

Residents allege the suspect had been a source of frustration for his sister-in-law, with some describing him as struggling with drug addiction, though this has not been independently confirmed. The two reportedly lived in the same compound while Patience's husband was working in Qatar.

Ilesi Location Chief Ben Mulinya said the suspect had previously been linked to criminal activity and associations with illegal gangs in the area.

Kirishi reportedly fled the scene after the attack but was later arrested by police, who rescued him from an angry mob in Kakamega Town.
