Woman Killed in Suspected Panga Attack by Brother-in-Law in Kakamega; Toddler Also Injured

A 23-year-old woman was killed in a suspected panga attack allegedly carried out by her brother-in-law in Lutoto Village, Kakamega East, on Thursday morning.

The deceased, identified as Patience Mapenzi Sulubu, was reportedly attacked while escorting her three-year-old daughter to school. According to police, the suspect is the brother of the deceased's husband. The two were living in the same compound along with her daughter, while her husband was reportedly working in Dubai.

Police said the attack occurred early in the morning when the suspect allegedly confronted Sulubu at the compound's gate and attacked her with a panga. She reportedly attempted to run toward the house but collapsed outside the compound and died from her injuries, sustaining deep cuts to her neck and head.

Her three-year-old daughter was also injured in the attack, suffering a cut to the head. The child remained responsive and was rushed to hospital in serious condition by members of the public.

Sulubu's body was taken to St Elizabeth Mukumu Mission Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains at large as police search for him.

Unidentified Man's Decomposing Body Found in Kirinyaga

In a separate case, police are investigating the discovery of a decomposing body believed to belong to a man in his 30s, found in a thicket in Kangari Village, Kirinyaga East Sub-county.

The body was found on Thursday, September 24, 2026, on a resident's farm in Mbiri Sub-location, Njukiini North Location. Police said the deceased was an unidentified African male adult, with the body in an advanced state of decomposition. No visible injuries were observed at the scene.

The scene was processed and the body removed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital Mortuary, accompanied by DCI officers. Detectives are expected to carry out fingerprinting and further investigations to establish the man's identity and the circumstances of his death, with an autopsy expected to help determine the cause.
