Suspect Arrested Over Murder of 65-Year-Old Evelyn Mukiri Mbaabu in Meru

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Evelyn Mukiri Mbaabu, who was attacked at her home in Kithoka, Imenti East Sub-County, Meru County.

Mbaabu was killed on August 7, 2026, while preparing supper with her 13-year-old grandson. According to investigators, an unknown man entered the compound at around 7 p.m. and went to the kitchen, asking for drinking water. The teenager was sent to attend to the visitor before he heard his grandmother screaming for help. He rushed to the kitchen and found her lying in a pool of blood.

The attacker then turned on the boy, striking him on the hand with a panga before fleeing the compound. Mbaabu was rushed to Grace Park Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case remained under investigation for several weeks before detectives arrested Solomon Kathurima Kairemia on September 21. The DCI said officers from the County Criminal Investigations Office and DCI Imenti North used forensic analysis and intelligence-led investigation to trace the suspect, who had reportedly abandoned his house and was spending nights hiding in nearby thickets, not far from his residence.

During the operation, officers recovered a blood-stained panga, which was taken as an exhibit for further forensic examination to help establish its connection to the killing. Police later conducted an identification parade, during which investigators said Kairemia was positively identified as the suspected attacker.

He was subsequently presented before the Meru Law Courts, where investigators obtained a 14-day custodial order to allow them to complete their investigations.

The DCI said the motive and full circumstances surrounding Mbaabu's death remain under investigation. The agency extended condolences to her family and said it would pursue all available leads to establish the facts of the case and bring those found responsible before the law.

ODM Politician Warns Ruto: These Individuals Are Unfit for Appointment

According to Alai, governors who have served more than two terms should not be considered for any appointments. He further emphasized that President Ruto should avoid appointing anyone who has already served as governor for two terms, suggesting that this group should be completely excluded from consideration. This stance has sparked a significant amount of discussion among Kenyans on various social media platforms, with many individuals sharing their perspectives on the issue. Alai's argument seems to stem from a desire for a change in leadership and the introduction of new ideas into the government system. He is advocating for action to be taken, indicating that reappointing former governors who have had a substantial impact on their respective counties could impede the progress and transformation necessary for national development. This perspective reflects...
