"I Was Terrified He Would Kill Me Too": Mvone Okwaro's Account of Surviving a Night of Horror

For three weeks, Mvone Okwaro had been working as a housemaid for a couple in Nairobi after travelling from Kakamega in search of work. She never imagined the job would expose her to a night she would struggle to forget. In August 2025, Mvone says she found herself trapped inside the couple's house as an argument between the husband and wife turned deadly. According to her account, the husband attacked his wife during the fight, and she collapsed. He then warned Mvone against speaking out or seeking help. Terrified for her own life, Mvone stayed silent while the couple's child slept nearby. She says the man continued attacking his wife over the course of the night, and at one point ordered Mvone to bring him a knife, which she did, fearing refusal could make her a target too. Throughout the ordeal, Mvone says she could only watch, believing any attempt to intervene could cost her life. Afterward, the man cleaned the weapon, had her return it, and began cleaning the house. Resurfaced Video Shows Chivayo's Brother With Pilot Nine Days Before Fatal Crash

A video recorded nine days before Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo died in a helicopter crash has resurfaced online, and many are finding it difficult to watch in hindsight. The footage, filmed on September 21, 2026, shows Chivayo's brother approaching the pilot of a red-and-white helicopter at an outdoor gathering. He appears to be checking in with the pilot, seemingly making sure the flamboyant businessman would reach his destination safely. Crowds of onlookers surrounded the aircraft, phones raised, capturing the lively atmosphere. Buses bearing the name "Johane Masowe Chishanu" are visible in the background, suggesting the gathering was linked to the religious community. In the clip, Chivayo's brother speaks directly to the pilot, in what comes across as a protective gesture toward his sibling. Chivayo was confirmed dead on September 30, 2026, after a helicopter crash in Marondera Rural, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean authorities said the aircraft was carrying six pe...

Two Years On, Family of Officer Swept Away in Nairobi Floods Still Waits for Answers

Two years after Constable David Kibet Chesire disappeared into raging floodwaters in central Nairobi, his family is still waiting for answers. Chesire, who was 33 at the time, vanished on the night of March 24, 2024, while responding to an emergency near Country Bus Station, close to Muthurwa Market and Kamukunji. Heavy rainfall had caused severe flooding across the city that evening. Around 10 p.m., Chesire and two colleagues, Jared Kemboi and James Mutea, were on patrol when they received reports of people trapped inside stalls. The officers rushed to the scene and managed to rescue three women and a child after part of a concrete slab connecting the stalls to a pedestrian walkway collapsed. Chesire then returned to help secure the stalls. That was the last time his colleagues saw him. The remaining section of the slab reportedly gave way, or he may have stepped into an open manhole, before being swept away by the powerful current. His AK-47 rifle, loaded with 30 rounds, was also car...
