Fears of Mob Justice as Businessman's Wife and Relative Held Over His Murder

The murder case involving Kitale businessman Joseph Njuguna has taken a new turn after two suspects were remanded in custody amid security concerns.

Njuguna was killed last month in Chepchoina, Trans Nzoia County, an incident that sparked concern among local residents.

The suspects, identified as Mary Muthoni, the deceased's wife, and Michael Maina, described as her relative, appeared before a court in connection with the investigation into his death. They are being held in remand as investigations continue.

The court was informed that the suspects were being detained partly for their own safety, amid concerns they could face harm from members of the public if released without adequate security. Authorities raised specific concern about the possibility of the pair being attacked by the community.

Investigators continue piecing together the circumstances surrounding Njuguna's death, and the motive behind the killing has not yet been fully established. Additional evidence is expected to be gathered as the case progresses, with the court expected to consider further applications regarding the suspects' detention.

Muthoni and Maina remain suspects at this stage and have not been convicted of any offence — the allegations against them will be determined through the ongoing judicial process.
