Kenyatta University Student's Family Demands Justice After Body Found in River Nyamasaria

 The family of Fidel Dennis, a Kenyatta University student whose body was found in River Nyamasaria days after he went missing in Kisumu, is demanding a full investigation and justice for his death.

Fidel, a final-year aerospace engineering student, had reportedly left home with friends, telling his family he would return soon. His father, Edward Ofuong'o, grew concerned when he failed to come back and sent him KSh25,000 via M-Pesa to help with his travel back to university. Fidel never returned home or reached campus — his phone went unanswered the following day, and his laptop and travel bag were later found untouched in his room.

Search efforts established that Fidel had visited several entertainment venues in Kisumu with acquaintances. He reportedly received a phone call during the night, became separated from one of his friends, and was later seen at other clubs before disappearing entirely.

His family reported him missing at Kombewa Police Station. Days later, individuals believed to have been among the last people to see him returned his phone and wristwatch, claiming he had given the items to them willingly — an explanation the family disputed, prompting them to request a police investigation into the circumstances.

Police later informed the family that a body had been recovered from River Nyamasaria. Documents found on the body confirmed it was Fidel, and his remains were moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.

Detectives have classified the case as a suspected murder and are reviewing CCTV footage from one of the venues Fidel visited before he disappeared. The footage reportedly shows him appearing distressed and involved in an altercation before leaving the venue alone.

A postmortem examination determined that Fidel died from oxygen deprivation and had sustained several injuries. Medical experts reportedly found no evidence of drowning, despite where his body was recovered — a detail that has added to the family's concerns about the case.

The family is calling for a thorough investigation, citing concerns over missing evidence and delays in establishing the full circumstances of his death.
