Ruiru MPesa Attendant in ICU After Being Shot Twice by Robbers Who Stole KSh 600k, Locals Question Police Response

 An MPesa attendant is fighting for his life at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital after he was shot twice during a violent daylight robbery in Membley, Ruiru.

Jackson Maina was shot in the chest and ribs on Friday morning at around 7:30am when two gunmen raided an MPesa and LPG gas shop at Favour Business Centre and escaped with over KSh 600,000.

CCTV footage reviewed by DCI detectives shows the two robbers walking into the shop armed with pistols and ordering staff to hand over all the cash. Police say a third masked suspect was waiting outside.

According to witnesses, the gang took KSh 600,000, mobile phones and a car key in under five minutes. Violence broke out after shop attendants and members of the public chased them as they tried to flee on a waiting motorcycle.

The robbers then opened fire, shooting about ten rounds at the crowd. Two bullets hit Maina, who collapsed on the spot before being rushed to hospital where he is now in the Intensive Care Unit with a lung injury.

"He was ordered to hand over everything and surrender. He complied," witness Paul Njoroge recounted.

Residents have condemned the shooting and accused the police of slow response. They claim only one officer from Kahawa West showed up to collect cartridges, while Membley Police Station had no vehicle to chase the suspects.

Kiambu Police Commander Kennedy Samani admitted that police face a vehicle challenge but said investigations are progressing. He confirmed that spent cartridges have been handed over to the DCI.

Detectives are now probing whether rogue police officers are linked to the gang behind the robbery, as the hunt for the three suspects continues.
