A 70-year-old church guard, Johnson Mukuba, was found dead inside the compound of Mount Zion SDA Church of God in Ngoni Village, Shikomari, Navakholo Sub County, Kakamega County, with his hands and legs tied with pieces of cloth. The incident was reported on Friday, September 18, 2026, after Mukuba was reportedly heard calling for help at around 2:30 a.m.
When police arrived, they found him lying dead on the ground with a deep cut on his head and a broken right hand. Investigators noted no signs of forced entry into the church and found nothing missing from the compound, raising questions about the motive behind the attack. Crime scene officers documented evidence at the site, and Mukuba's body was taken to Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to shed more light on his injuries.
