Alex Mwakideu Defends Neutral Stance After Heated Debate on Ruto's Second Term

Radio 47 presenter Alex Mwakideu has sparked online debate after a clip from a studio interview went viral showing him refusing to declare a position on President William Ruto's second term bid.

In the video recorded on Thursday, September 10, Mwakideu is engaged in a spirited back-and-forth with fellow presenters who press him to say whether he supports one term or two terms for the president. A caption on screen reads "Jamani naomba Msamaha. Sikuwa na Ubaya" alongside prayer emojis.

Mwakideu insisted that his role as a broadcaster does not allow him to publicly back either camp, saying he is not a content creator or influencer but a mtangazaji who cannot say one term or two term. He admitted that the country is facing real challenges, listing abductions, corruption, poor wages for nurses and runaway public spending as issues he agrees exist.

He, however, refused to translate those concerns into a political endorsement or a call for Ruto to leave office, adding candidly that while he would accept money if offered, he would never publicly declare support for one term or two terms.

The clip quickly drew sharp reactions online, with some Kenyans accusing him of sitting on the fence and arguing that journalism should question power, while others defended him saying his job requires neutrality.
