"Angalia Vile Unatreat Watoto" — Man Says Nyamira Man Died After Being Slapped By Mother, Coffin Left Alone

 Kenyans online are debating parenting after a man who shared a viral burial video claimed a young man in Metamaywa died after a confrontation with his mother.

The video which was recorded in Kisii county showed a coffin lying on a wooden table in an open field. The casket was partly open, with only two men near it — one seated on a chair, another trying to cover it.

The rest of the villagers had gathered far across the road, just watching.

According to Efra Sufuria who posted the clip on Facebook, the deceased identified as Saul allegedly died after his mother slapped him.

"His mother slapped him. If you are a parent, please watch how you treat your children," Sufuria captioned the video.

The isolated burial has raised many questions. Why was the coffin not taken to the homestead? Why did only two people stay with the body?

Social media users were divided. Some believed the seclusion was linked to the alleged cause of death, which in some communities is seen as a taboo. Others said the family might have been following cultural customs.

Commenting on the post, Edu wrote, "Sasa hata mimi naangalia yule jamaa ameketi hapo, ndiye alimuua ama?"

User Christa however defended parents, saying, "Vitu zingine zinapitia tu kwa wazazi ndio watu wadhani ati ye ndo ameuwa, this is not true."

Authorities in Nyamira are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
