Skip to main contentMurang'a County Woman Representative Betty Maina has stepped in to support Julius Maina, a father who lost two of his three sons, Lael and Leon, following a devastating incident involving the boys' mother. His third son, Alvin, survived with injuries.
Maina confirmed the news in a Facebook post on September 15, 2026, saying she had stood by the family throughout the ordeal, offering support as they came to terms with a loss that left the wider Murang'a community shaken.
The Woman Representative visited the family in person to offer her condolences, saying no parent should have to endure burying their own children under such painful circumstances. She called on the community to rally around the family as they begin to heal.
As part of that support, Maina gifted Julius a new motorcycle to help him rebuild financially, describing it as a sustainable source of income that could help him provide for his family going forward.
"As Julius continues to heal from this great tragedy, I saw it fit to support him with a sustainable means of livelihood that can help him provide for his family and rebuild his life with dignity," she said.
Maina also used the moment to speak more broadly about mental health, urging greater awareness and compassion for families and communities affected by mental health struggles.
"Mental health challenges affect families and communities in profound ways. Let us continue creating awareness, extending compassion, and supporting those going through difficult moments. Sometimes, standing with someone means helping them find a way to start again," she said.
She closed by offering prayers for the family: "May God continue to give Julius and his family strength, healing and hope."
