Colleagues and listeners have continued to mourn KBC Radio Taifa broadcaster Edmond Salasia who passed away on September 10 after his lungs collapsed, with many remembering him as a dedicated voice of the national broadcaster.
Salasia, who served in the Kiswahili Service, was known to audiences across Kenya through Radio Taifa's national frequencies including Mombasa 100.8, Kisumu 104.5 and Nakuru 104.1. His death was announced by journalist Stephen Mukangai who in an emotional Facebook tribute said Salasia's voice and presence created lasting memories for the newsroom and listeners.
Mukangai's message, which has drawn hundreds of reactions, described Salasia as more than a colleague, calling him a brother and a bingwa wa kipaza sauti, a phrase that reflects the respect he commanded in the broadcast industry.
On social media, fellow journalists, friends and regular listeners shared condolence messages, praying for comfort for his family and for his soul to rest in peace. Several noted that his contribution to Kiswahili radio will be remembered for years.
Kenya's media industry has lost two journalists in recent weeks, following the death of NTV's Nyeri bureau reporter Josiah Mugo who died after an illness, leaving colleagues to reflect on the pressures and dedication of field and studio journalism.
