Insiders Revealed: Next Moves for Raila's Allies Amid Govt Shake-Up

Gordon Opiyo, a blogger known for his close ties to the government, has recently made claims that three key allies of Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, may soon secure positions within President William Ruto's cabinet. This revelation follows the recent decision by the head of state to dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries, with the exception of Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi.

According to Opiyo, Wycliff Oparaya, the former governor of Kakamega county and Deputy Party leader of ODM, is likely to be appointed to a significant role in the upcoming cabinet. Additionally, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and Ugunja counterpart Opiyo Wandayi are also speculated to be in line for influential positions.

During a national address from State House, Mr. Ruto emphasized his commitment to engaging in extensive consultations across various sectors and political groups. His goal is to establish a government that is inclusive and broad-based, with a primary focus on delivering essential services to the people of Kenya. Ruto expressed his intention to accelerate the implementation of radical programs aimed at addressing the country's debt burden, increasing domestic resources, creating job opportunities, and eliminating inefficiencies within the government.

"I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, with the aim of setting up a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and expediting the necessary, urgent and irreversible, implementation of radical programmes to deal with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminate wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and slay the dragon of corruption consequently making the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient," Ruto stated.

These developments unfolded shortly after the President and opposition leader Raila Odinga held a joint press conference at KICC, where they reportedly reached an agreement to initiate a multisectoral engagement from the following week in an effort to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country. The potential inclusion of Odinga's allies in Ruto's cabinet could have significant implications for the political landscape, signaling a shift in alliances and power dynamics within the government. As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the future of Kenya's governance and political structure.
