Police in Ruai, Nairobi, are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered inside a friend's house after what is believed to have been an overnight altercation.
The incident was reported on September 16, 2026, at around 7:05 p.m. According to police, the deceased, identified as Elizabeth Wanjiru Wangare, had sought a place to stay with a friend after allegedly being asked to leave her mother's home.
The friend told police that Elizabeth had approached her on the evening of Tuesday, September 15, at around 10 p.m., asking for somewhere to spend the night. She gave Elizabeth the house keys and arranged for a boda boda rider to take her to the house, before going to spend the night at her own boyfriend's residence.
The following day, Wednesday, at around 1 p.m., the friend returned home accompanied by another acquaintance. After knocking and getting no response, the two reportedly looked through a window and saw Elizabeth lying on the floor, covered with a blanket. Neighbours told them a fight had reportedly taken place at the house overnight. With the neighbours' help, they broke open the door and found her dead inside.
Responding police found the body on the floor, with her left hand appearing dislocated, blood coming from her nose, and blood stains visible on the mattress. Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the scene before the body was moved to Nairobi City Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem. Police say investigations into the circumstances of her death are ongoing.

Police said her trousers and undergarments were found near the door of the rented unit, house number four. The woman, reportedly known to work as a sex worker, was last seen by her caretaker on the evening of Tuesday, September 15, at around 8 p.m.
Investigators reportedly recovered both used and unused condoms near the body, along with a white scarf found around her neck, which police suspect may have been used to strangle her. The body reportedly showed no other visible physical injuries.
The scene was processed and the body moved to Kitui County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy. Police say investigations into the circumstances of her death remain ongoing.
